Exhibition

I reflect upon my year,

And then reflect once more,

This time in solitude.

Time and mercy chain me down

To unveil the new exhibit

They fate me to sit in.

A temporary glass room

For friends and family

To observe, snap pictures,

Tap on the barrier.

Scared when I snarl back,

Disappointed when

Exhaustion wins its battle.

My collar shocks me

When I disobey.

Age holds a fish over my head,

I balance a starred ball on my nose

For the onlookers.

The louder they clap,

The more they drink,

The more I eat. Though,

I’m rarely hungry these days,

But I let the mackerel swim

Down my throat,

Lest they threaten

A new wrinkle, a grey, a death.

Let them deplete me as

My cage morphs into a plastic shroud

Vacuum-sealing my life

To preserve the freshness of a meat.
